The abrasives industry in transition
2024: concrete results
The SEAM Carbon Footprint Project, an ambitious initiative, is designed to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of the SEAM label’s members while establishing a calculation methodology for the industry.
Key outcomes in 2024 include:
- Sector-Wide Carbon Footprint Analysis: For the first time, a first overview of the collective carbon footprint of the SEAM Group. These calculated Scopes 1 and 2 figures serve as a critical reference point for future progress and identifying key areas for improvement.
- Development of Practical Tools: Training materials for members and a structured communication framework for suppliers were created to facilitate accurate data collection and involve the value chain in emissions reduction efforts.
- Growing Expertise: Additional managers were trained in carbon footprint assessment, increasing the industry’s capacity to understand and act on environmental challenges.
- Expanding Participation: The growing number of SEAM members engaging with the Carbon Footprint Project highlights increasing awareness of environmental issues within the industry.
2025: accelerating the transition
In 2025, the SEAM Program will intensify its efforts to support members in reducing emissions and advancing sustainability.
Key objectives for the year include:
- Enhanced Carbon Footprint measurement: Scope 3 projections for 2023 will be shared in 2025, offering a broader understanding of indirect emissions and opportunities for reduction.
- Updated Carbon Data: Emissions data for 2024 will be reviewed and shared in the first quarter of 2025, helping members assess progress and refine their strategies.
- Tracking Long-Term Progress: By 2026, SEAM aims to provide a detailed assessment of emissions reduction achieved across the sector, highlighting the effectiveness of implemented strategies.
