How to decrease packaging in the abrasives industry?
This new PPWR makes us rethink our approach to packaging within the abrasives industry. Today, there is a number of strategies we can explore to proactively address this challenge and lessen our environmental impact.
Reconsider the design. It is important to evaluate the current packaging and transportation methods of abrasives. How can we reduce the size of packaging to optimize space in packages? Research & Development teams should be challenged to innovate more sustainable, reusable, or recyclable packaging options. Alternatives such as compostable paper and recycled cardboard should be considered.
Responsible waste management. To optimize waste management practices, could we consider establishing collection systems or collaborating to collective industrial waste management systems? The recovery of production waste is pivotal, particularly its incineration to harness and reuse its thermal energy, thereby transforming it into a valuable energy resource.
Perception and education. Informing end-users about the recyclability of packaging is a powerful lever for adopting a more environmentally friendly approach. Education for sustainable approaches is essential. Packaging should include clear information on recycling, reuse, and environmental impact. These elements are instrumental in promoting new practices within our sector.
New regulations present us with unique opportunities to rethink our practices and chart a new way towards a more sustainable and responsible industry.
